A Pearls of Service Foundation Signature Event

Celebrating Excellence in Education, Arts, and Culture

The Pearls of Service Foundation (PSF) annually awards scholarships to college-bound students from Southeast Michigan. June 2026 marks 27 years of fulfilling our mission. PSF plans to distribute scholarship awards exceeding $35,000.

The annual PSF Juneteenth Celebration and Scholarship Recognition Program has been held in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Pi Tau Omega Chapter, the City of Southfield, and the Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Past celebrations have been hosted at Tapestry Banquets and Regency Manor & Banquet Center in Southfield, and have featured the Mayors of Southfield and Lathrup Village, corporate sponsors, performing artists, visual artists, and student scholars. The 2026 celebration will be hosted at Henry Ford Providence Hospital, Southfield Campus, in partnership with the HFHS Empowerment Employee Resource Network.

Our celebration aligns with Southfield's Juneteenth festivities, and we have been a community partner since the inaugural events in 2019.

2024 Juneteenth Celebration Recap

The 2024 Juneteenth Celebration: We Are Our Ancestors Wildest Dreams

It was truly a celebration of scholarship and the arts.  The event was executed flawlessly.  The patrons enjoyed poetry by Ms. Chloe Bagley (future Poet Laureate) and artistic designs by the College for Creative Studies students. Several art pieces were purchased as well.  They learned the history of the art of African drums and dancing. The Pearls of Service Foundation distributed over $27,000 in scholarships. Our scholarship recipients were prominently honored by the committee for their hard work and academic accomplishments. This event is a major source of scholarship distribution and education for our Juneteenth holiday where corporations, companies, and the community can join in the fun.  This annual recognition ceremony is eagerly anticipated by all of us at PSF.

We formally acknowledge and commend our scholarship committee members for their dedicated efforts in managing the process this year:

Alberta Garrett, Chairman; Jean Bridges; Carol Cartwright; Renee Maxwell; Veretta Nix; Joan Britton; Tikia Watkins

PSF members participating in the process were Jacqueline Lewis-Kemp, Mary Neyland Moore, Rhonda Reynolds-Williams, Nisette Gray.

PSF Technology team participating in the process were Gerrae Jackson and Venus Smith
